How to connect Matomo Analytics with your WordPress site

In this guide we will help you set-up Matomo analytics on your WordPress site, so you can view your Matomo data on WordPress dashboard.

Creating Matomo Auth token

For SiteSEO to be able to access the data of your Site's Matomo analytics, it requires to be able to communicate with your Matomo server. For that a auth token is created.

Follow the steps below to generate Auth token:-

  • Login to your Matomo Dashboard.
  • Once inside the dashboard, go to settings page, by clicking on the gear⚙️icon on the top right in the navigation bar.
  • On the settings page in the Left navigation, click on Personal --> Security

  • On the security page, scroll down to the Auth Tokens section and click on Create Token.
  • The a form will appear there add the Token description, and then click create.
  • After that the token will be generated, copy the token and click on the confirmation button

Now we have the token with us, and we can connect Matomo Analytics with your WordPress site

  • In your WordPress admin go to SiteSEO --> Analytics --> Matomo --> Stats in Dashboard tab

  • In the Stats in Dashboard section, fill the Matomo Authentication Token field with the key you copied from Matomo and then save it

You are all done now, you will be able to see a Matomo Analytics widget on WordPress Dashboard, with a chart with stats of your website if any.
